  • Habitat for Humanity - affordable homeownership
    Habitat for Humanity Canada is a national, non-profit organization working towards a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

  • Office of Residential Tenancies (Rentalsman)
    The Office of the Rentalsman provides advice to residential landlords and tenants about their rights and obligations.

  • Raising the Roof
    Raising the Roof is Canada's only national charity dedicated to long-term solutions to homelessness. They: build awareness about homelessness and what can be done; and, raise funds for community groups working to alleviate homelessness.

    First Nations Mental Health by Karen Clements R.P.N., B.A., M.A.
    The intent of this bibliography is to explore three broad intersecting areas: an analysis of the process of anthropological research especially with First Nations in Canada; First Nations Mental Health -- an exploration and analysis of mental health issues within First Nations; and, First Nations within Canada -- a look at the literature describing the context of First Nations in Canada.   • Canadian Council for Refugees
    A non-profit umbrella organization committed to the rights and protection of refugees in Canada and around the world and to the settlement of refugees and immigrants in Canada. The membership is made up of organizations involved in the settlement, sponsorship and protection of refugees and immigrants.     During the constitutional talks of 1989, the Metis were recognized as one of the three aboriginal peoples of Canada. Since then the MNC has represented the Metis at negotiations with the federal and provincial/territorial governments.

  • Urban Aboriginal Persons with Disabilities: Triple Jeopardy!
    Written by Douglas Durst, Ph.D. and Mary Bluechardt, Ph.D. This two year study examines the challenges identified by First Nations urban disabled persons and determines practical solutions to eliminate or overcome these obstacles.

  • Women and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: Moving research to policy. A report conducted under the auspices of Immigrant, Refugee, and Visible Minority Women of Saskatchewan Inc. and the principal investigators, Francisca Isi Omorodion and Judy White. Funded by the PWHCE (February 2004).

    The ultimate goal of CANMAT is to improve the quality of life of persons suffering from mood and anxiety disorders, through its combined efforts in research, education, public awareness and policy development.

  • CMHA's Health Promotion Tool Kit
    Although the factors that influence mental health are numerous and complex, there are many simple ways to support and sustain mental health at the community level. The projects that are profiled in this tool kit provide examples of straightforward and effective approaches to promoting mental health in diverse communities.

  • Health, Leisure & Human Performance Research Institute
    The Health and Wellness Research Group at the University of Manitoba, includes individuals from many disciplines focusing on a population health promotion model that addresses important personal and social determinants of health frequently over looked in more traditional models of medical and health services research.

  • Mental Health Works
    Mental Health Works is an initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario. Launched in 2001 as a partnership project involving the voluntary sector, government and business, Mental Health Works has emerged as a unique program that responds to a growing concern about mental health in the workplace.

  • Prairie Region Health Promotion Research Centre

Capacity/Empowerment

  • Applied Research and Analysis Directorate (ARAD)
    Health Canada's Health Policy Research Program (HPRP) was created in 2001 to fund health policy research of a medium to long-term nature. The final reports from the first projects that were funded have been completed and the research results submitted to Health Canada. The Research Management and Dissemination Division (RMDD) of the Applied Research and Analysis Directorate (ARAD) will be releasing the summaries of the final reports as they become available.

  • Caledon Institute of Social Policy
    Caledon's work covers a broad range of social policy areas including income security (e.g., pensions, welfare, child benefits, Employment Insurance, benefits for Canadians with disabilities), community capacity-building, taxation, social spending, employment development services, social services, disability supports and health. While Caledon focuses on Canadian issues, it draws upon international experience and innovations in social policy.

  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research
    Institute of Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addiction: Supports research to enhance mental health, neurological health, vision, hearing, and cognitive functioning and to reduce the burden of related disorders through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems, and palliation.

  • Council of Canadians with Disabilities
    advocates at the federal level to improve the lives of men and women with disabilities in Canada, by eliminating inequality and discrimination.Members include national, regional and local advocacy organizations that are controlled by persons with disabilities.

  • Environmental Scan - United Way Winnipeg
    The Environmental Scan provides a summary of the economic outlooks for Canada, Manitoba, and Winnipeg. It also highlights key demographic and social trends and considers Canadian's attitudes and values.

  • Saskatchewan's Action Plan for Children
    No single service can address all of the issues faced by these children and their families. Comprehensive, integrated programs involving partnerships between government and communities are needed. Responses that are culturally relevant, meaningful and community-based must be developed.
